Qualification Details

We are looking for applicant with excellent qualifications in two or more of the areas listed below, and the willingness and ability to develop skills in the other.

  • Enzyme assay development
  • Kinetic characterization and –modeling
  • Structure-function relationships of enzyme catalysis
  • Enzyme design
  • Enzyme structure determination (crystallography)
  • Heterogenous (two-phase) enzyme reactions

You must have a two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master's degree.

Responsibilities/Job Description

The PhD project will focus on functional characterization of plastic degrading enzymes – both wild types and engineered variants - which are produced by other members of the EnDeWa team. The work will have a dominant element of comparative biochemistry with emphasis on kinetic parameters, stability, inhibition and synergy. The PhD student will also work with the organization, storage and interpretation of data, and collaborate with the rest on the EnDeWa team on designing new generations of enzyme variants. The project has a strong element of laboratory work primarily at DTU-Bioengineering, but some work at Novozymes’ laboratories, which are located within walking distance in the Lyngby area, is also expected.

About the Project

The project will apply a range of approaches within design, mutagenesis, production and characterization of plastic degrading enzymes, and the kay aims are to produce competitive catalysts for industrial application and establish a leading knowledge platform for the enzymatic deconstruction of plastic. The PhD program will provide excellent conditions for developing leading research skills within this area in particular and applied enzymology in general.
