Qualification Details

Criteria for the hiring of PhD Research Fellows are stated in the Regulations Concerning Terms and Conditions of Employment for the post of Post-Doctoral Research Fellow, Research Fellow, Research Assistant and Resident.

  • Applicants must be in possession of a master's degree/main subject or equivalent in the relevant subject area with a grade of B or higher on their master’s thesis/thesis.
  • A prerequisite for employment is that the candidate is to be admitted to UiA’s PhD programme at the Faculty of Humanities and Education. More information is available here: uia/forskerutdanningsprogram/ph.d.-program-i-humaniora-og-pedagogikk
  • Master's students who are completing their degree in 2021 can also apply. If selected for the position, the latter will receive a conditional employment offer. A prerequisite for final admission and appointment is a completed master's degree with a minimum grade of B.

Desired qualifications

In assessing applicants, emphasis is placed on the quality and relevance of the project description, achieved examination results, the relevance of the academic background, possible previously published works, and documented development work.

Personal qualities

Personal qualities and suitability for the position will be emphasised. The position requires the ability to work in a purposeful, organised, concentrated and independent manner.

Responsibilities/Job Description

The positions are affiliated with the Faculty’s PhD programme, which has four specialisations: specialisation in literary studies, specialisation in education, specialisation in religion, ethics, history and society and specialisation in linguistics.

The PhD education is a supervised doctoral degree. The PhD candidates receive formal training and supervision that provides them with academic insight, both theoretical and methodological, and a further specialisation that enables them to conduct independent research. It is expected that the PhD candidates are based at the University for a significant portion of the effective working hours.

Applicants are to prepare a project description to accompany the application. The project description shall have a scope of a maximum of 5 pages, excluding references and shall present and discuss the background for the topic, theoretical perspectives, research questions and methods within the given framework. A progress schedule for the completion of the PhD within the stipulated time shall also be presented in the project description.

The applicant is fully responsible for submitting complete digital documentation before the closing date. All documentation must be available in a Scandinavian language or English.

In case of discrepancies between the Norwegian and the English version of this description, the Norwegian version takes precedence.
