Qualification Details
- Prospective candidates must hold a Norwegian master's degree or an equivalent foreign degree in a discipline that is relevant for the PhD project (as mentioned above). Applicants who do not have a Norwegian master’s degree will be evaluated according to the regulations of the Norwegian Agency for Quality Assurance in Education (NOKUT), and the documentation may be sent to NOKUT for evaluation. It is a condition for employment that the master's degree has been awarded at the time of application.
- The minimum requirement for applicants is normally grade B, or equivalent, both for the master's thesis and for the master's degree.
- The applicants must be able to work independently in a well-structured way and have documented collaboration skills.
- Must have a high proficiency in written and oral English.
Applicants who have already held a PhD position at the University of Bergen are not eligible for employment.
In cases where ranked applicants have approximately equivalent qualifications, strategic considerations, motivation, and the applicant’s personal eligibility will be taken into account.

The position is advertised in one of the following research fields:
- The relationship between science and the major current societal challenges
- The science/society interface
- The relationship between science, values and ethics
- The philosophy of social science
- The philosophy of the humanities
- Science and technology studies
- Social theory and political philosophy
Applicants with a background from across the sciences and the humanities/social sciences are welcome to apply. Applications with projects involving detailed "case studies" are encouraged.

About the Department/Section/Group
The SVT is an interdisciplinary, interfaculty centre at the University of Bergen. The unit is responsible for research, education, and dissemination within the field theory of science, broadly understood as including both internal and external perspectives on science, including the philosophy of science, history of science, science and technology studies, science- and research ethics and other perspectives to the extent that science, across research areas, is their research object. The prospective candidate's main supervisor will be among the centre’s permanent academic staff. The applicant must have established contact with a supervisor before applying for the position, and the application must contain a confirmation of the supervisor’s willingness to assume that capacity.
