Qualification Details

In order to be admitted to the doctoral program, the applicant must meet both basic and special eligibility requirements (Higher Education Ordinance, Chapter 7, Section 35).

Basic eligibility

Basic eligibility is the person who has completed a degree at advanced level, completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits at advanced level, or who in other ways within or outside the country have acquired substantially equivalent knowledge.

Special authorization

Those who have completed a degree at advanced level in building technology, construction, architecture, road and water construction, environmental science or other specialization that the employer finds equivalent have special qualifications for admission to the doctoral program in environmental science (the doctoral program). Eligibility also applies to those who have another degree at the advanced level with at least 60 higher education credits in a relevant area for postgraduate education.

Admission and assessment criteria

In order to be admitted to the doctoral program, the applicant must be judged to have the ability to assimilate the program (Higher Education Ordinance, Chapter 7, Section 35). Admission takes place after individual examination.

Assessment criteria

Good ability to express oneself in both Swedish and English, orally and in writing, is a requirement.

Special emphasis in the assessment will be placed on:

  • competence and experience of laboratory work and analytical method,
  • experience of writing scientific publications.

To succeed in your doctoral studies at the University of Gävle, you need to be goal-oriented in your work. When selecting the applicants, the ability to:

  • independently drive their work forward,
  • be able to collaborate with others,
  • have a professional approach,
  • analyze and work with complex issues,
  • the ability to discuss and explain research for people who are not active is assessed. within one's own subject

Responsibilities/Job Description

The doctoral position includes:

  • to carry out the scientific project
  • to carry out courses corresponding to at least 60 credits
  • teaching and implementation of administrative work
  • to regularly participate in academic activities such as seminars and meetings

The tasks include some teaching in courses at basic and advanced level. Some administrative tasks may also occur. The employment is full-time for up to five years and the workplace is Gävle.

About the Project

The Department of Building Technology, Energy Systems and Environmental Science at the University of Gävle is looking for a doctoral student to conduct scientific research on green concrete. The overall goal of the project is to improve the competitive advantages of green concrete through technical methods and reduced carbon dioxide emissions and thereby contribute to a greener and more sustainable society.

Postgraduate subject: Environmental science

The project will focus on the construction and environmental aspects of green concrete. The research will be carried out through experimental and analytical studies. The doctoral student is expected to write a doctoral dissertation corresponding to 180 higher education credits and publish high-quality articles in international journals. The doctoral student's total duration is five years, taking into account 20% of the time for teaching.

General Information

After admission to postgraduate education, a position as a doctoral student will be offered (Higher Education Ordinance, Chapter 5, § 3). The employment is a fixed-term employment full-time (only one year which can then be extended by a maximum of two years at a time)

The total employment period may not be longer than the equivalent of full-time postgraduate education for four years. An employed doctoral student can to a limited extent (maximum 20%) perform certain tasks within e.g. education and administration.
