The PhD position is in cognitive science in the Cognitive Zoology group, but the candidate will collaborate with international neuroanatomists and paleontologists. The project aims at exploring evolutionary principles of cognition by studying the Sauropsida lineage with living animals, their brains and with fossils of extinct species.

The PhD project will investigate the cognition in palaeognath birds, crocodilians and various non-archosaur reptiles. The studies will focus on fundamental cognitive functions such as behavioural inhibition, object cognition, memory and learning.

The project is financed by the Swedish Research Council (Interdisciplinary Research Environment Grant) and led from the department.
