Qualification Details

The PhD-position's main objective is to qualify for work in research positions. The qualification requirement is that you have completed a master’s degree or second degree (equivalent to 120 credits) with a strong academic background in Psychology or equivalent education with a grade of B or better in terms of NTNU’s grading scale. If you do not have letter grades from previous studies, you must have an equally good academic foundation. If you are unable to meet these criteria you may be considered only if you can document that you are particularly suitable for education leading to a PhD degree.

You must meet the requirements for admission to the faculty's doctoral program. Further, good written and oral English language skills are a requirement.

Preferred selection criteria

In the assessment of the candidates the following qualifications will be emphasized:

  • Grades from the master’s degree/cand.psychol.
  • Research relevant experience such as publications and being involved in research
  • Recommendations/references
  • Special interest in child development, parenting, and family functioning; experience in one or more of these topics is a surplus
  • Good written and oral Norwegian language skills is a surplus
  • Competence in quantitative research methodologies is a surplus
  • Motivated to engage in international exchange

Responsibilities/Job Description

The PhD candidate must realize his/her PhD project within a period of 3 years. The core of the PhD activities are the design and execution of empirical studies and the dissemination of his/her work via international journals and conferences.

About the Project

The PhD project focuses on the relation between the quality of the parent-child relationship (e.g., parenting styles, family climate, and attachment) and children’s psychological functioning (e.g., coping, emotion regulation, and rumination). The PhD project will involve a series of empirical studies thereby employing data from the Trondheim Early Secure Study.

About the Department

Our research and teaching are based on five perspectives: biological, cognitive, social, personality and developmental psychology. We offer a clinical programme in psychology as well as study programmes in the psychology of learning and in work and organizational psychology. We have also three outpatient clinics in which we treat patients as part of the clinical programme. The Department of Psychology is one of seven departments in the Faculty of Social and Educational Sciences.
