Qualification Details

Ideally, your degree should be in biomedical engineering, computer science, mathematics, or biological science with a focus on quantitative and mathematical aspects. More specifically you should ideally have the following qualifications:

  • Knowledge of a programming language like Python, MATLAB, or C++.
  • Ability to work in a high-performance computing environment.
  • Thorough understanding of basic algorithms and data structures used in health data science.
  • Knowledge in signal processing, especially advanced biomedical signal processing.
  • Knowledge of probabilities and statistics.
  • Firm grasp of first-year university mathematics (differential calculus/linear algebra).
  • Experience in Neural Networks, Machine/Deep learning algorithms.
  • Knowledge in heart physiology and heart signal processing
  • Strong communication skills in English – both in writing and orally
  • Knowledge on clinical work, e.g., in heart diseases

The language of communication at DTU is English.

 

Responsibilities/Job Description

This position requires skills in health data science, including data pre-processing, cleaning, analysis, and processing using modern AI- and ML-based tools in Python or MATLAB. It also requires a background in physiological signal processing on heart-related data, like ECG. Furthermore, a structure approach to research and strong communication skills in English in written and oral dissemination is core. Finally, since you will be spending time with a clinical team at Rigshospitalet, good collaborative skills and understanding of clinical work is important.  From an academic point of view, you must have a two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master's degree in addition to a bachelor’s degree (180 ECTS points).

About the Department/Section/Group

DTU Health Tech in collaboration with Rigshospitalet is looking for a qualified candidate for a vacant PhD position in Data Science for Cardiovascular Diseases. The purpose of this project is to develop AI-based machine/deep learning (ML/DL) algorithms and computational methods for better prediction of significant VA (ventricular arrhythmias) and SCD (sudden cardiac death). This will be done by integrating the patient data as well as ICD (implantable cardioverter defibrillator) data. The goal is to optimize the selection of patients for ICD implantation and their subsequent treatment. More specifically, these AI algorithms on patient and ICD data for better prediction of VA in ambulatory settings is aimed at to enable decreasing morbidity / mortality and improve patient reported outcome in patients with high risk of life-threatening VAs.The position is part of the Digital Health section of DTU Health Tech who performs research in digital technologies for health, healthcare, life science, and society, in order to enhance the efficiency of healthcare delivery and make healthcare more personalized and precise. The position is in collaboration with the Heart Center at the Copenhagen University Hospital ("Rigshospitalet") who will provide clinical supervision and hosting.
