Qualification Details

You have graduated at an advanced level in computer science or energy systems, or completed courses of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits at advanced level in computer science or energy systems, or in some other way acquired essentially equivalent knowledge.

You have skills in the AI area or have skills related to this area. Knowledge of database management is also an advantage. You also have a genuine interest in energy issues in general and you consider hydropower as an important part of the future energy system.

Responsibilities/Job Description

We are now looking for a PhD student in Energy systems for the project AI method for river regulation.

Your work assignmentsHydropower is an important electricity production resource in the Swedish electricity system, and efficient river regulation is necessary to utilize its full potential. Efficient management of the future electricity supply in Sweden can be achieved with the help of digitalization and automation. As a PhD student, you will be part of a project that focuses on challenges and opportunities with digitalization and automation of hydropower.

As a PhD student, you will develop and design an AI method for river regulation, which can be used as a basis for decisions by companies that operate hydropower plants. Also, the work includes database management of historical and future data that is relevant to the operation of hydropower plants. The developed AI method, in combination with a developed database, will also be used during the work as a PhD student for analysis of a delimited part of a real watercourse.

The project is a collaborative project with a company that owns and operates several hydropower plants, and which has a great interest in developing a method for river regulation, in order to potentially increase electricity production in its hydropower plants and also improve the management of river regulation.

As a PhD student, you devote yourself to your postgraduate education and research projects in which you are included. Your work can also include teaching or participating in other assignments at the division, up to 20% of full-time.

When taking up the post, you will be admitted to the program for doctoral studies. More information about the doctoral studies at each faculty is available at.

The employment has a duration of four years’ full-time equivalent. You will initially be employed for a period of one year. The employment will subsequently be renewed for periods of maximum duration two years, depending on your progress through the study plan. The employment may be extended up to a maximum of five years, based on the amount of teaching and departmental duties you have carried out. Further extensions can be granted in special circumstances.

Starting date August 15 or by agreement.

Salary and employment benefits The salary of doctoral students is determined according to a locally negotiated salary progression.
