Qualification Details

Applicants should preferably have a MSc degree in:

  • Biochemical Enginering
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Food or Environmental Technology
  • Biotechnology
  • Other, with equal merit, within the discretion of the Selection Committee

Responsibilities/Job Description

You gain business knowledge, e.g., economical evaluation and project management, to evaluate the implementation of developed processes in an industrial environment.

Throughout the programme, you are trained to develop and apply an independent attitude, a critical approach, creativity and a focus on innovative application in the interdisciplinary field of Biochemical Engineering. The biotech industries in the Netherlands and abroad value graduated Designers in Bioprocess Engineering and offer them a range of careers in all facets of bioprocess development.

In the first year, PDEng-trainees take mandatory courses and a personal selection from advanced courses in fermentation technology, microbiology, downstream processing, environmental biotechnology, or biocatalysis, along with economic evaluation and project management courses. A group design project will be carried out.

Documents Required

To enter the online application procedure, we ask you to submit in English, through the application form:

  • Letter of application in which you explain your interest in the traineeship in Process and Equipment Design and in design in general (not more than 1 A4 page)
  • Curriculum Vitae (not more than 2 pages A4)
  • Master's and Bachelor's degrees transcripts including grades obtained (plus a scale that indicates the maximum, minimum and passing grades)
  • Copies of Master's and Bachelor's diplomas
  • A copy of your passport or ID card
  • Two reference letters from supervisors of  (research) projects or (scientific) work (These can be upload by you through the application form, or ask your referees to e-mail them to our coordinator

Please note that PDEng applicants are required to provide evidence of proficiency in the English language. The applicant must submit a TOEFL-score of 100 (or higher) or IELTS-score with a minimum of 7.0  in each of the four sections. Certificates should not be older than two years.(Applicants whose native language is English or hold a degree from an institution in an English speaking country where English is the language of instruction, are exempted. Nationals from the USA, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and Canada are exempted from the English test requirement.)

A presentation and an interview will be part of the selection procedure.

The extent of this position is a maximum of 38 hours per week (1 FTE). This position initially has an employment basis of 2 years (1 year with an extension of 1 year). Benefits and other employment conditions are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities. The successful candidate will be employed by the Delft University of Technology.
