Qualification Details

  • You hold a University of Applied Sciences degree in journalism or communication (preferable a Master's degree) and have a special interest in neuroscience.
  • You have proven experience in writing popular scientific articles.
  • You have a solid understanding of communications and public relations principles.
  • You have a proven ability to initiate, develop and evaluate PR and communication activities and events.
  • You must demonstrate creativity and good design judgement.
  • You are fluent in spoken and written Dutch and English.
  • Excellent organisational and social skills are essential to fulfil this role.
  • You are familiar with working in a complex environment.
  • You are expected to work proactively and in a result-oriented manner.
  • You have a positive, service-oriented attitude, are a team player, and show commitment.


Responsibilities/Job Description

What does neuroscientific insight mean for each individual and our society at large? As a Marketing Communication Specialist, you help the Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour engage in this public debate. With your knowledge and experience in the area of PR and communication, you give us a voice.As a Senior Marketing Communication Specialist you will manage the Donders Institute's external and internal communication. Together with the portfolio holder from the Donders Board, you will develop and implement our communication strategy. You will initiate and maintain contacts with various target groups both inside and outside the scientific community (e.g. policy makers, the general public). Media enquiries will be dealt with in close collaboration with the communication officers of Radboud University, the Radboud university medical center and the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics.You will coordinate the activities of the Donders Wonders blog team and the Donders news team, organise popular science blog writing training sessions, and, together with a team of researchers, coordinate the BrainHelpDesk for the general public. You will advise the Donders Board on sponsor requests and supervise the design and production of PR materials such as flyers, posters and newsletters.Individual researchers will come to you for advice on their outreach activities, including the Donders Citylab @ muZIEum. You will devise and coordinate promotional photo or video opportunities. You will manage and update information on social media sites, and you will also engage with users of these sites. Furthermore, you will organise promotional events, such as exhibitions, public lectures, open days and tours for press and other interested parties.You will be responsible for the Donders Institute website's structure, making sure that it will work well with Radboud University's new website. In collaboration with Radboud University's central communication department, you will supervise the updating and implementation of the new Donders Institute website, following the newly established Radboud University guidelines.

About the Employer:

  • Employment for 0.8 FTE.
  • The gross monthly salary amounts to a minimum of €3,821 and a maximum of €5,230 based on a 38-hour working week, depending on previous education and number of years of relevant work experience (salary scale 11).
  • You will receive 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus.
  • It concerns a temporary employment for one year with the prospect of a permanent contract.
  • You will be able to use our Dual Career and Family Care Services.
