Qualification Details

The position requires a doctorate or an equivalent degree from a foreign university. The doctorate shall have been obtained no longer than three years before the expiration date of the application.

Documented experience from activities mentioned under Duties as well as documented excellent skills in writing (publications in scientific journals of high reputation) is a requirement. Excellent skills in presentation (communication) is also a requirement.

Responsibilities/Job Description

The project for which we are now looking for new staff concerns fundamental research within material physics and materials chemistry, primarily focused on investigation of novel 2D materials for energy conversion.

The Materials Design division investigates novel materials for catalysis, including hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and photocatalysis. We would now like to expand on these, and similar, activities through application-inspired fundamental research: We have a strong track record in the discovery of new MXenes, and we now intend to explore MXenes as well as new 2D materials beyond MXenes for these areas of applications.

The post doc will perform materials synthesis (primarily powder-based bulk synthesis), and characterize the 3D and 2D materials with respect to structure and composition. The 2D materials will be tested for energy conversion potential, including, but not being limited to, photocatalysis and HER.

The post doc will be part of an international team (> 20 people) performing related theoretical investigations and experimental activities on laminated materials in 3D and 2D, including (in selection) advanced materials characterization, high resolution (in situ) microscopy, and synchrotron analysis.

A Postdoc will essentially carry out research. The position may also involve teaching, but during no more than a fifth of work time.
