Qualification Details

  • Higher-education degree including subject specialization (in-depth study of a subject). Degrees at the doctoral level are meritorious.
  • Teaching Expertise. It is necessary that the pedagogical skills and subject specialization are relevant to the content of the employment and the tasks that will be included in the employment.
  • Applicants also must have completed teacher training of relevance to operations at the University, comprising ten weeks, or have acquired the equivalent knowledge. If special circumstances apply, this training for teachers in higher education may be completed during the first year of employment.
  • Documented ability to teach in Swedish or English is a requirement unless special reasons prevail. The holder is expected to be able to teach in Swedish within two years.
  • Personal capabilities necessary to carry out fully the duties of the appointment.

Assessment Criteria/Ranking of applicants that fulfil the above-mentioned qualifications required

The ranking of eligible applicants will be based primarily on subject specialization and teaching expertise of which weight will be primarily given to subject specialization.

Subject Specialization may refer to in- depth study of the subject, for example a PhD, will be afforded consideration. In addition to academic qualifications, experience from other activities, including technology development, may also be taken into account.

Teaching Expertise comprises educational and teaching qualifications. This expertise can have been achieved outside the academy through supervision, internal training, mentoring programs, etc. In assessing teaching expertise teaching quality must be the prime consideration. The scope of teaching experience, in terms of both breadth and depth, must also be afforded consideration

Furthermore, consideration must be given to the capacity to plan, initiate, lead, and develop teaching and instruction, as well as the ability to connect research to teaching in respect to research in the subject at hand, subject didactics, as well as teaching and learning in higher education. The ability to interact concerning issues of teaching and learning in higher education with actors inside and outside the University is also included in teaching expertise.

Administrative Expertise is important for the employment and will be given consideration. Administrative expertise is demonstrated, for example, through the capacity to plan, organise, and prioritise work in an efficient and task-related manner as well as through the ability to assign and observe time frames. Expertise includes overall operational planning and the capacity to manage resources in a way that reflects operational priorities as well as the ability to work in a structured manner based on an awareness of goals and quality. Administrative expertise also includes entrepreneurship.

Collaboration Expertise is important and will be afforded high consideration. Collaborative expertise is demonstrated by the ability and skill of planning, organizing and implementing interaction with the surrounding community. Popular publications, public debate and lectures are examples of forms of interaction with the surrounding community. Other examples of collaboration are patent applications, commercialization and industrial cooperation. The ability to translate knowledge sharing with the surrounding community into activities of importance to the education's development and quality are part of the collaboration expertise.

Other Expertise Ability for and interest in working with international networks.

All merits must be documented in a manner that makes it possible to assess both quality and scope.

In filling this position the university aims to appoint the applicant who, following a qualitative holistic assessment of her/his competence and expertise, is judged to have the best potential to carry out and develop the relevant duties and to help advance operations.

Responsibilities/Job Description

  • Teaching and administration. Teaching duties include course responsibility and course administration. The focus is primarily on interdisciplinary courses that use quality technology to understand, define, measure, communicate and lead companies' work with sustainable development. The employment may include assignments in the form of responsibility for development activities for both education and research. This includes the development of sustainability key figures and working with integrated management systems based on what is called The Triple Bottom Line, as well as general development of the area of sustainable business development.
  • Follow developments within the subject area and the development of society in general that are important for the work at the university.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders within and outside the university world.

About the Department

The Department of Civil and Industrial Engineering comprises three Divisions: Quality Science, Industrial Engineering and Management, and Civil Engineering and Built Environment. The department has about 100 employees and conducts research and education both at the Ångström Laboratory in Uppsala and on Campus Gotland. This position will be located on Campus Gotland. The Division of Quality Science works with both teaching and research and offers a wide range of programs and independent courses that are permeated by the goal of creating long-term sustainable companies and organizations. In the Division, several research projects, linked to sustainable development, are in progress. The Division also conducts research in quality sciences with a process and stakeholder focus. The entire Division is located at Campus Gotland in Visby, an international campus in the middle of the world heritage town of Visby, the “capital” of the island Gotland.

Uppsala University Campus Gotland offers the best of both worlds: the full-scale university's wide range and weight in education and research, and a unique small-scale campus in an interdisciplinary research environment. Campus Gotland is a hub for the university's research and education in sustainability.

 Description of subject area of the employment: Sustainable business development consists of organizational improvement work to understand and lead sustainable development with a focus on industrial applications.
