Responsibilities/Job Description

Since June 2020, the Department of Medicine has been participating in a research project in collaboration with Uppsala University, which aims to identify novel substances with anti-inflammatory properties. The substances are isolated from plants used in traditional Chinese medicine. This project is funded through a collaboration with Guangdong Provincial Hospital for Chinese Medicine.

Your mission

This position as laboratory technician is a fixed-term employment, with the possibility of extension. Per-Johan Jakobsson’s research group consists of about 20 researchers with varying backgrounds and from several countries, and it runs several research projects. In one of these projects, fractions and substances from plant material that we have received directly from researchers in China are isolated by our partners at Uppsala University, while we at KI develop biological cell assays for evaluation of these. These biological cell assays are designed to identify substances with anti-inflammatory properties and are often based on transfected cell lines or primary cells isolated from human blood. The effect of the substances is evaluated with different methods, e.g. flow cytometry, mass spectrometry and ELISA-like assays. Additionally, we are investigating the role of prostaglandin in spondyloarthritis using samples from patients in close collaboration with our clinic. Your role is to work with these (cell) assays and to communicate with medical doctors/nurses/blodcentralen in order to obtain the required patient samples.]
