Qualification Details

  • A minimum level of a HBO Degree in mechanical engineering, mechatronics or a related field is a must.
  • Minimum 3 years of work experience and good assembly skills, including precision work.
  • Interest in refrigeration, vacuum, electrical and control technology. An experience within this sector would be a plus.
  • Either Dutch or English must be spoken on a professional level. Then the other language needs to be on a conversational level.
  • Eager to learn, responsible and details oriented.
  • Able to work in a complex environment with many different stakeholders.
  • Experience in Autodesk AutoCAD/Inventor is a plus.
  • Experience working in a laboratory environment is a plus.
  • Open to work in a clean room environment.
  • EU work permit or Dutch nationality is needed.

 

Responsibilities/Job Description

At QuTech, we are looking for an experienced technical engineer/ Lab Engineer to join our team. In this role, your main responsibilities will be to help build, maintain and develop highly advanced experimental setups for our quantum research labs. In addition, we offer the possibility to be trained and become a Safety Officer as a part of your responsibilities.

This means that if you want to, 8 hours per week, you will act as a Safety Officer to monitor safety and provide advices to prevent accidents. You will also evaluate the effectiveness of the company's safety programs. If you do not have experience as a safety officer yet, but you are genuinely interested, we will provide a training for you.

Here below will be your daily responsibilities:

  • Supporting various research groups within QuTech and working together with other technicians such as fine mechanics, electronics and cryo engineers.
  • Performing (preventive) maintenance on research equipment.
  • Assembling, fitting and modifying instruments and equipment in test facilities, for example pumps and compressors, but also optical tables or cleanroom infrastructure.
  • Translating wishes of researchers into technical specifications and drawings for lab equipment and lab infrastructure.
  • Maintaining contacts with suppliers, requesting quotes, steering on planning.
  • Supervising and guiding external parties in the laboratory.

Optional:

  • Providing information and instruction and discussing improvement proposals regarding safety.
  • Verifying that everyone on the site is following safe work practices and doing their jobs safely.
  • Identifying safety hazards and investigating them thoroughly
  • Drafting and managing QuTech general safety instructions, based on input from TNW's occupational health and safety and environmental advisor

About the Employer:

Your contract will be with Delft University of Technology (TU Delft). This is a 0.8 - 1.0 FTE position with a minimum of 32 hours and a maximum of 38 hours per week.

Appointment is for one year, with a prospect of a permanent contract after 1 year. The UFO profile is that of scale 9 UFO: Technician R&D-bound - profile O 3. The salary is based on VSNU-CAO Scale 9 (min 2979 Euros to max 4093 Euros per month on full time basis of 38h). Scaling depends on background and working experience.
