Qualification Details

We expect that you have a background in life science and microbial physiology.

Required skills include:

  • Solid understanding of basic microbiology and bacterial growth physiology
  • Knowledge about microbial metabolism and host-microbe interaction
  • Experience with in vitro systems simulating the human intestine

You must contribute to the teaching of courses. DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English. You are expected to be fluent in at least one of these languages, and in time are expected to master both.

As formal qualification you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).

Responsibilities/Job Description

You will be part of the Research group for Gut, Microbes and Health. We offer an ambitious, dynamic and sociable research environment with lots of exiting challenges and opportunities.

Responsibilities and qualificationsYour overall focus will be to strengthen the competences of the research group within regulation of microbial growth and metabolism in the human gut environment.

You will work in a multi-disciplinary team and will be responsible for establishment of model systems for investigation of the impact of abiotic intestinal factors on bacterial metabolism of dietary compounds. You will be involved in the supervision of PhD, master and bachelor students affiliated to the research group. The candidate we seek is ambitious and capable of working highly independently, takes responsibility for progress and quality of results, and is motivated by both personal and team accomplishments.

The work will involve:

  • Implementation, validation and application of flow-systems simulating bacterial communities in the gut environment of humans.
  • Designing experiments and platforms for testing effects of environmental factors on bacterial metabolite production.
  • As part of the research group for Gut, Microbes and Health to contribute to the overall activities and development of this group
  • Dissemination of methods and results in the form of conference contributions and scientific publications

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
