Responsibilities/Job Description

At the Section for Visual Computing at DTU Compute we are looking for an Assistant Professor in 3D Image Analysis to take part in the teaching, research and other tasks. You will become part of the faculty group in the section and be part of a team that develops the research within computer vision.As assistant professor, you should note that it is part of DTU’s Tenure Track program. Responsibilities and qualifications You share the group’s strong interest and knowledge in 3D image analysis covering both theoretical and experimental. 3D image analysis is used in for example biomedical imaging applications and applications within materials science. Your research will focus on methods for image segmentation, orientation analysis, and other methods that allow characterizing structures in 3D. We expect you to find great motivation in contributing to the develop of the area with both methodological research and applying analysis methods for scientific studies based on 3D imaging. You will also be working in close collaboration with competent colleagues on the other research areas in the section within computer graphics and computer vision.   There is a need to educate the next generation of engineers who master 3D image analysis, i.e. engineers that wish to apply imaging to understand and develop materials and devices and therefore need quantitative measures obtained using 3D imaging. To meet this need, we plan to start three new courses in 3D imaging and analysis, and we expect you to take part in planning, developing course material, and teach parts of these new courses. In addition, we expect you to take responsibility in the teaching in general including supervising or co-supervising students at all levels from BSc to PhD and contributing to teaching in courses where needed. It is expected that you use about 50% of your time on teaching activities.Attracting funding is important for building up the area of 3D image analysis. Currently there is a need for 3D image analysis in many applications for example within biomedical imaging and at large-scale facilities such as MAX IV and ESS, which gives good opportunities for attracting funding. Therefore, it is an advantage if you have experience with funding applications and you understand the need for and benefit of 3D image analysis and your adjacent research interests in engineering applications.You have

  • documented research in one or more application areas such as
    • biomedical image analysis, and
    • image analysis for materials.
  • Methodologic experience with, inter alia,
    • 3D image analysis, and
    • characterization and modeling of structures in 3D.
  • Some familiarity with and willingness to collaborating with end users.
    • We put a strong emphasis on industrial collaborating in our research, so it is important to embrace this kind of development.

You will be responsible for the teaching of courses and supervision of bachelor, master, and PhD projects. If you are not familiar with Danish, you will be expected to learn Danish and be able to teach in Danish after 3 years. DTU can provide Danish language courses.

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The salary for the position will be determined by the applicant’s qualifications and in agreement with the relevant union.
