About the Project

The research area concerns amyloid diseases with a focus on the amyloid compositions associated with Alzheimer's disease, type 2 diabetes, and familial amyloidosis. The projects are specifically focused on understanding the molecular mechanisms that cause amyloid formation as well as the effect of the endogenous proteins that are currently known to counteract these processes. You will use various forms of chromatographic methods for protein purification, transmission electron microscopy, thioflavin-based fluorescence techniques as well as various immunological methods of analysis.

The projects also include studies in eukaryotic cell systems. Amyloids have general properties, and these structures are also found in other areas of nature. The projects will therefore also include studies of bacterial amyloids in the form of biofilms.
