About the Department

The Department of Food and Nutrition, and Sports Science has two postgraduate education subjects; Food and Nutrition, and Sport Science, and the research is characterized by a clear educational connection, multidisciplinary collaborations and close contact with the outside world. The main focus of the department's research is to develop and convey scientific knowledge and professional competence that can contribute to effectively promoting sustainable habits regarding sport, physical activity and food.  Food and Nutrition Science is a third-cycle subject with focus at people's intersection with food, which is studied in a multidisciplinary perspective. The importance of diet in health promotion and disease prevention is central but aspects such as environment and performance are also addressed. Food and Nutrition Science includes studies on the actions, choices and habits of individuals and those responsible for diets. It may apply to meals as well as diets as a whole. Learning, behavioral change and people's thoughts, attitudes and perceptions about diet are important starting points in research. The department has been granted a research grant to carry out the research project VeggiSkills-Sweden. A full-time position as a doctoral student with admission to postgraduate education in the subject of Food and Nutrition for doctoral studies within VeggiSkills-Sweden is hereby declared vacant. The project focuses on a new era of vegetarian diet, where people all over the world are encouraged to adopt a higher intake of plan-based foods. If we are to be able to promote sustainable food habits in the future, we need up-to date knowledge about the consequences on dietary intake and nutritional status of the various types of plan-based diets that young people adopt, as well as what support they need. The project is also carried out in Norway and Australia to enable cross-cultural comparisons and is thus characterized by international cooperation.

We are looking for you who want to educate yourself at postgraduate level in Food and Nutrition Science and who want to contribute to carry out the research project VeggiSkills-Sweden with the aim to investigate dietary and nutritional consequences of plant-based diet with different strictness, as well as young people's food literacy, attitudes, and behavior in relation to plant-based diet and explore the factors that affect adherence to sustainable food habits.
