Qualification Details

Although the perfect candidate may not exist, a decisive factor for CBS is that you are a respected leader who has achieved ambitious results through effective professional and personal leadership. Preferably, you have experience with:

  • Education management at university level, as you will be responsible for a large and complex programme portfolio.
  • Strategic management and change management allowing you to take responsibility for and spearhead the continued development and implementation of our new strategy.
  • The Danish/Nordic education system in order for you to navigate the rules and frameworks confidently.
  • Negotiation at political level in a national and international context.
  • Management of educational institutions with ongoing involvement of collegiate bodies to help ensure smooth decision-making processes and organisational well-being.
  • Leading leaders – being an inspiration and support for CBS' leaders in the field of education, several of them being international employees.

Additionally, emphasis will also be put on whether you can and will:

  • Be innovative and curious, as we wish to promote these competences at CBS through our new strategy.
  • Be decisive and ambitious to contribute to the implementation of the strategy.
  • Complement, support and provide constructive contributions and counterarguments for the rest of Senior Management, allowing the team to jointly become stronger on an ongoing basis.
  • Communicate clearly in writing and orally, allowing you to create understanding, followership and constructive dialogue internally and externally.
  • Collaborate with and be inspired by others – across disciplines, fields and cultural backgrounds – because a central aspect of our strategy involves developing our collaborations with an inquiring mind.
  • Exercise a leadership style where listening to the many voices of the organisation comes natural to you, allowing development to take place continuously in dialogue with the organisation.
  • Reflect on and adjust your own management approach because we must be able to continually develop and evolve jointly as an organisation and also as individuals.
  • Be fluent in written and spoken Danish/Scandinavian and English.

Finally, mandatory requirements are that you:

  • Have a strong academic background in the research and education world as an internationally recognised scholar at associate professor or preferably professor level in business administration, the social sciences or a related area.

You are expected to document and account for the above in your application and interview.

Recruitment process

Copenhagen Business School invites all qualified candidates to apply for the position as Dean of Education. Under the leadership of the Acting President, an appointment committee will review the applications and invite a selection of qualified candidates to an interview.

One of CBS’ strategic goals is the promotion of diversity, which is why every effort has been made to facilitate a recruitment process that aids in reducing potential bias during recruitment. Applicants are therefore encouraged not to include a photo or more personal information than strictly necessary in their application.

To minimise group bias in the selection process, applicants invited to the first interview will not be interviewed by the entire recruitment committee but by individual committee members via brief online conversations.

We expect the interviews to take place online on 2-3 May 2022 (round 1) and on 16 May 2022 (round 2). Tests and references will be part of the recruitment process between the first and second round.

We wish to fill this position by 1 August or as soon as possible after that.

Responsibilities/Job Description

CBS is looking for a curious, courageous and collaborative Dean of Education who is passionate about higher education and who can lead the day-to-day operations and strategic development of CBS' extensive programme portfolio which comprises our full-time programmes as well as our executive degrees.

CBS' strategic ambition

We consider ourselves the choice university for business in Denmark. Our strategy "We transform society with business" makes us stand out as a key partner to business and society, and we commit to offering solutions to the major societal challenges we face. In the field of education, this includes providing graduates with strong business skills coupled with relevant, transformative capabilities. We call our approach to business education "Nordic Nine". To us, it is important that our graduates are able to participate in and lead the necessary transformations in business and society – now and in future. Working with Nordic Nine calls for curiosity and courage but also the ability and will to pursue collaboration across disciplines, sectors and national borders. Therefore, we need a Dean of Education with these exact qualities.

The position

As Dean of Education, you will be part of CBS' Senior Management, which also consists of the President, the Deputy President, the Dean of Research and the University Director. This means you will have joint responsibility for the day-to-day as well as the strategic management of the entire university.

As head of the education area you will collaborate closely with CBS' programme directors who head the programmes within the Dean of Education's guidelines and who will report to you. Moreover, you will have the managerial responsibility for parts of the programme administration at CBS, including our executive degrees and our Teaching & Learning unit.

The portfolio of tasks is diverse, however, your responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • The implementation of CBS' strategy – including continuing the thoughts behind Nordic Nine.
  • A visionary and ambitious implementation of our educational strategy efforts (digitalisation, green transition, diversity, integration of fundamental business knowledge and transformative capabilities into the various degree programmes etc.).
  • The quality assurance and quality development of CBS' teaching and degree programmes – including ensuring a sustainable, relevant and high-quality programme portfolio.
  • The efficient governance of the matrix organisation of the education area.
  • The efficient operation and development of the core elements of the educational cycle (e.g. admission, syllabi, teaching, pedagogical development, study environment, graduation and alumni relations).
  • The allocation of positions and resources in the field of education in collaboration with department heads and Senior Management.
  • The area of education policy – often in collaboration with CBS' stakeholders.
  • The national and international collaboration in various organisations and networks.
