About the position and who we are looking for

The Department of Pharmacy seeks a highly motivated, dynamic, collaboration orientated and innovative researcher with educational skills.The cluster of pharmaceutical biotech industry and academia in the Oslo area is growing and the concept of Oslo Science City with the new Life Science building in progress is an important part of this development. The Department will move into the new Life Science building in 2026/2027, where interdisciplinary collaborations and scientific convergence will be important. This will provide new opportunities for groundbreaking research and innovation. The successful candidate will proactively initiate and conduct partnerships with pharmaceutical biotech industry and academia.

The successful applicant is expected to contribute to strengthening the research within industrial pharmaceutics as well as to promote interdisciplinary and international cooperation.  Experience with research and development in industrial pharmacy, and in particular radiopharmacy, theranostics, sterile production, physical chemistry and formulation of drug products, will be an advantage. 

The candidate will be expected to collaborate with the existing research groups in both pharmaceutics and medicinal chemistry at the department as well as other relevant research environments, including industry. Other significant factors will include the ability to create an attractive research environment, experience in research supervision, international networking and originality in research. 

The selected candidate will have documented independent research experience after the PhD degree, scientific production in international peer review journals, and preferentially documented success in securing external funding or applications submitted. 

Teaching is an important part of the position, and the overall workload of teaching and research is divided equally between the two. The successful candidate should be able to teach at all levels, including the master- and PhD levels. The position will entail teaching in various areas of pharmaceutics, including radiopharmacy to students at all levels, including lectures, lab/group teaching and supervision. 

General information about the position

The candidate must be able to lead and initiate research-based teaching, supervise researchers, undertake duties in connection with examinations, and undertake administrative tasks as required by the prevailing regulations.The successful applicant may furthermore be required to take on other teaching duties and administrative tasks, by request from the Department or the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, e.g. as part of the Centre for Nuclear Research.

Qualification requirements

Required qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in Pharmacy.
  • Completed PhD within pharmaceutics or related fields central for the position.
  • The selected candidate will have documented independent research experience after the PhD degree, scientific production in international peer review journals. 
  • Scientific qualifications will play the major role, and the main emphasis will be on the candidate’s scientific production from the last five years.
  • Must be able to teach at all levels and to supervise Master and PhD students. 
  • Pedagogical qualifications and teaching and supervision experience at all levels will also be an important factor in the evaluation process and should be well documented in a teaching portfolio. The applicant should describe her/his qualifications in view of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) framework which includes:
    • Focus on student learning
    • A clear development over time
    • A researching approach
    • A collegial attitude and practice
  • The successful applicant must have fluent oral and written communication skills both in a Scandinavian language and in English.
  • Documented good knowledge of the pharmaceutical area in Europe/USA, including regulatory and therapeutic guidelines.

The successful candidate who at the time of appointment cannot document sufficient teaching qualifications (minimum formal requirement is a 200 hrs pedagogical program) will be required to obtain such qualifications within a two-year period.

The successful candidate must demonstrate mastery of both English and one of the Scandinavian languages as working languages, in order to be able to teach and otherwise participate in all functions the position may involve. If the successful candidate does not have sufficient mastery of a Scandinavian language, the candidate will be required to learn sufficient Norwegian within a two-year period.

Desirable qualifications:

  • Experience with attracting external research funding and leading scientific research projects
  • High scientific merits within pharmaceutics
  • Experience with research and development in industrial pharmacy, specifically radiopharmacy, theranostics, sterile production, physical chemistry and formulation of drug products. 
  • Independent teaching responsibility experience.
  • Documented experience in research dissemination.
  • Other qualifying activities such as innovation, patenting and research management.
  • Documented administrative experience.

Candidates should be able to establish, lead and conduct research projects. A record of accomplishment in scientific and administrative leadership is an advantage. International network, outreach activities, collegiality, and the ability to create a good working environment will be part of the evaluation.

  • List of reference persons: 2–3 references (name, relation to candidate, e-mail and phone number).
