Postdoctoral Fellow in 3D Thermo-mechanical Solver Development for Nuclear Fuels

Your tasks

We are looking for a person to contribute to our team in the area of fuel behaviour modelling and safety analysis for nuclear fuels in the context of the OperaHPC European Project. Your tasks will include:

  • Development and implementation of new methods and models (oxidation, hydrogen transport) in the 3D fuel behaviour code OFFBEAT
  • Development of an data exchange interface between the Falcon and OFFBEAT fuel behaviour codes
  • Collaboration with neutronics and thermal-hydraulics specialists
  • Verification and validation of the Falcon and OFFBEAT fuel behaviour codes
  • Presentation of research results in the form of peer-reviewed publications, conference participations and preparation of technical reports

Your profile

Your have a PhD degree in nuclear or mechanical engineering, physics and/or applied mathematics. Ideally you also have a solid background in nuclear engineering, including thermal-hydraulics, neutron transport and neutron kinetics, with some experience in nuclear fuel behaviour simulation codes. You have a solid background in computational modelling, solution of PDEs and numerical methods using the OpenFOAM finite-volume C++ framework. We are willing to consider candidates with limited nuclear background provided they can demonstrate significant development experience using OpenFOAM and a desire to explore applications of OpenFOAM beyond the realm of traditional CFD.

You are fluent in spoken and written English. Proficiency in German is beneficial.
