The institute of clinical sciences, department of pediatrics is hiring a postdoctoral fellow for a 2-year position in translational pediatric cancer research. The research group focuses the work in the junction between clinical pediatric oncology and experimental research. The work is characterized by a tight collaboration between clinical and basic researchers within the group, as well as with prominent colleagues in adjacent research groups. The lab is located at the Sahlgrenska Center for Cancer Research, Medicinaregatan.

Subject area description
This research project aims to use personalized analysis of circulating tumor DNA to develop better and less invasive markers of disease burden, treatment response and relapse in pediatric cancer. We perform experimental research on tissue samples from children with all types of cancer, treated at the pediatric cancer center, Sahlgrenska University Hospital.
Duties
The main task of this position is to lead and perform research projects independently, but in close collaboration with colleagues of different professions. You will design and perform experiments, collect and interpret data, and write scientific papers. This position will be focused on the laboratory side of the project, and you will not be in contact with the patients. The work may include grant application writing and some administrative tasks such as product ordering and lab organization.
Eligibility
To be eligible for appointment as a postdoc, the applicant is required to have a doctoral degree, a doctoral degree in art or a foreign degree that is deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree. This eligibility requirement must be met before the employment decision is made.
In the first instance, those who have completed their degree no more than three years prior to the end of the application period shall be considered. Those who have completed their degree more than three years prior to the end of the application period may also be considered in the first instance if special grounds exist. Special grounds relate to leave of absence due to illness, parental leave, commissions of trust within union organisations, service within the defence services or other similar circumstances, as well as clinical service or service/assignment relevant to the subject area.
Assessment criteria
The applicant will be assessed regarding scientific background. To qualify as a postdoctoral researcher the applicant should hold a PhD in a relevant subject and experience of basic research. Proven ability to write coherent scientific text with publications of scientific articles is required. Highly proficient in spoken and written English is necessary.
It is expected that you can both conduct research in a highly independent manner as well as the ability to cooperate with colleagues. Previous work in the area of genetics and/or cancer is meriting. Of great importance is personal qualities such as strong self-discipline, problem-solution oriented workstyle, organizational skills and good communicative and interpersonal team skills. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

The employment is limited (temporary) for 24 months, 100 % of full-time and is placed at Institute of Clinical Sciences, Pediatrics. Starting date; 2023-09-01
