Qualification Details

  • You have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Communications and Marketing and a minimum of two to three years working experience in communications and marketing, preferably in higher education.
  • You have affinity with (Liberal Arts and Sciences) higher education.
  • You think and act strategically and have proven experience with strategic communications. You also have a hands-on mentality to get things done. You are proactive and result-oriented.
  • You have experience with social media marketing and have excellent (web)publishing, editing and writing skills.
  • You are diplomatic and approachable and you are able to interact effectively with a wide range of people. You have the skills to convince stakeholders of your innovative ideas.
  • You are fluent in English and (preferably) in Dutch (both spoken and written).
  • You are well-organised, flexible and able to work under pressure.

Responsibilities/Job Description

Are you an all-round Communications and Marketing Advisor with strong (strategic) advisory skills and affinity with student marketing? Would you like to advise University College Utrecht (UCU) on internal and external communications, working in an international environment with students and staff? We are looking for a marcom professional who can make it happen. You have affinity with the student target group when it comes to student recruitment and information and you provide the Management Team with strategic communications advice.

What will you be doing?

  • You advise on communication policy and strategy of UCU, e.g., on the positioning, tone of voice, and stakeholders. You contribute to the implementation of the communication policy and update it, when necessary.
  • You advise and support UCU’s Dean, the Management Team and Project Leaders in communication issues. An example is advising on issues like informing students and staff about the coronavirus and the related measures.
  • You are responsible for planning and coordinating activities related to internal and external communication such as promotional publications (online and offline), websites, social media and a newsletter. Your work also includes communication activities, related to events like the Commencement (graduation) Ceremony.
  • Together with the UCU Marketing and Communications Officer, you review and improve current processes and platforms (e.g., the website, CRM, social media). You set goals, evaluate communications and marketing activities and work more data driven.
  • You cooperate with other University Colleges in the Netherlands to make the concept of these colleges more visible to target groups in the Netherlands and around the world.
  • You help two colleagues who are in charge of the strategy and activities related to the recruitment of both national and international students. These colleagues are, among others, responsible for the Open Days, student ambassadors, campus visits, and national and international recruitment (e.g., events, school visits and fairs).
  • You work closely together with colleagues at UCU (e.g., Admissions Office staff and our student ambassadors team) and the Communications and Marketing Officers at Utrecht University.
  • Supervising periodical trainees and student assistants working for hands-on communications such as the newsletter, websites and social media can be part of the job.

About the Department/Section/Group

The Communications and Marketing (C&M) Office  external linksupports the Executive Board, the faculties and services in developing and implementing policy on communication and educational marketing of the university. Strategy, policy and implementation come together at C&M. The C&M Office gives direction to the university communication and marketing policy, periodically adjusting it in close cooperation with the faculties. The office also develops new initiatives at university and faculty level.

The C&M Office consists of four teams. You will be working in the Communications team. In this team, there are about 25 communication professionals who work for various departments, programmes and projects. Your will be located at the University College Utrecht (UCU). UCU is one of our selective, international honours colleges. UCU offers a Bachelor’s degree programme in Liberal Arts and Sciences, in which students compose their own multidisciplinary curriculum. Classes are small with on average twenty students. Intellectual exchange between professors and students in a friendly and informal atmosphere is actively encouraged. The students live and study at a residential campus and form a tight knit academic and social community. Half of the students are from abroad, representing 75 different nationalities.

About the Employer:

Offer

We offer a position (0.6 FTE) for one year, which will be changed into an appointment for an indefinite period of time, in case of good performance. The gross salary - depending on previous qualifications and experience  - ranges between €2,846 and €4,490 (scale 10 according to the Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities) per month for a full-time employment. Salaries are supplemented with a holiday bonus of 8% and a year-end bonus of 8.3% per year.
