A person who has obtained a PhD or an equivalent degree from abroad in gender studies or has acquired the equivalent research expertise in other ways, will be considered eligible for the position of associate senior lecturer. Only applicants who have obtained a PhD or acquired the equivalent qualifications no more than five years prior to the application deadline will be considered. Applicants who have obtained their PhD more than five years prior to the application deadline can be considered if there are special circumstances, such as sick leave, parental leave etc.
The applicant is required to have a PhD in gender studies (or equivalent research expertise), as well as teaching and research experience in gender studies or the equivalent. Priority is given to applicants with a documented high-level research and teaching expertise in one or more research areas, relevant for the education offered in the department. The successful candidate is expected to teach courses with different theoretical, methodical, and empirical content. Documented experience of research and teaching on undergraduate and postgraduate level, in either historical method, or a combination of quantitative and qualitative method, within social sciences, is considered highly meritorious. Having received an externally funded research grant is an advantage. In addition, good collaboration with internal and external stakeholders is of great importance. Previous experience of feminist, post-colonial and/ or queer theoretical discussions regarding methodological development, strong connections withthe research community in an international context, as well as interdisciplinary experience in teaching and research is regarded as highly advantageous.
This employment is a tenure track, hence only applicants who have obtained a PhD or acquired the equivalent qualifications no more than five years prior to the application deadline will be prioritized. In the assessment, special attention will be paid to the applicant’s potential for development as well as documented research skills, ability to develop research within the subject area and to obtain external research funding. Research skills include international publication, independent research, and participation in international cooperation, with reference to the degree of progression following their PhD.
High emphasis is placed on pedagogical abilities and abilities to collaborate with others. Some emphasis is placed on administrative skills.
An associate senior lecturer may, on application, be promoted to permanent employment as a senior lecturer. The application must be submitted to the Faculty of Social Sciences no later than 3 years and 6 months after the date of appointment. A review will be conducted midway through the appointment. The applicant’s eligibility and suitability for such employment will be assessed through a review of the progress made during their appointment with regards to research and teaching, focusing on the following criteria:• well documented research competence that is of significance to the subject and duties of the post. This includes a good documented national and international standing as a researcher. Emphasis will be on the ability to publish internationally.
Documented ability to write applications for external research funding.• well documented teaching competence. Emphasis will be on documented skills in conducting teaching and supervision at different levels and to development of quality and breadth of teaching competence over time. Teacher training to the extent required for appointment as senior lecturer. The pedagogical competence must be documented in a teaching portfolio.• progress in academic leadership through an enhanced ability to develop, lead and implement education and research and/or demonstrated leadership/commitment to duties for the department as a whole.• good ability to interact with society and inform others about research and development work.• where applicable, sufficient proficiency in Swedish to be able to teach in Swedish. There are opportunities for Swedish language training at Lund University.
When assessed, equal weight will be placed on pedagogical and research skills.
The position is comprised of 40 percent research and 60 percent teaching. Work duties consist of teaching in gender studies at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. In addition, the successful candidate shall actively participate in the development of the administration and education offered.
At the Gender studies department there is a well-developed research environment with a strong connection to feminist theory and methodology. Research at the department is prominent when it comes to developing and problematizing gender and gender relations. Researchers in the department have a long tradition of incorporating post-colonial theory and queer theory within the frames of what is today conceptualized as intersectionality. We are now looking for a colleague who can further develop this tradition.
The duties also consist of conducting research in gender studies towards one or more of the research areas within the department. The successful candidate is expected to actively contribute to strengthening our research environment. This includes publishing and actively applying for external research grants.
