Qualification Details

Six overall criteria apply for associate professor appointments at the University of Copenhagen. The six criteria (research, teaching, societal impact, organisational contribution, external funding and leadership) are considered a framework for the overall assessment of candidates. Find information about each criteria here:

Furthermore, each applicant must be able to document:

  • Research qualifications at the level that can be achieved by satisfactorily completing a period of employment as an assistant professor/postdoc, but may also be obtained in other ways
  • Teaching qualifications and pedagogical competencies
  • Research-based teaching

The associate professor is also required to possess good interpersonal and communicative skills.

Responsibilities/Job Description

The Associate Professor is expected to develop a program addressing the major public health problem of osteoporosis and cancer related bone loss from a basic biology point of view. It is generally accepted that mesenchymal stem cells of the bone marrow exhibit a multipotent differentiation repertoire involving both bone and fat and that the choice of path is subject to pharmacological intervention. However, while the insight into the mechanisms of lineage differentiation is increasing, further translational research requires highly sophisticated preclinical model systems and the ability to narrow down potential drug targets based on understanding of the relevant signalling pathways and epigenetic regulation. Therefore, further advancing the field will rely heavily on both reproducible cell based assays and relevant mouse genetics. The successful candidate should use both in vitro and in vivo models based on mesenchymal stem cells and transgenic mouse models. Funding of the research program must be obtained prior to commencement of the appointment. The candidate is expected to contribute to the departments teaching activities. The associate professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:

  • Research, including publication/academic dissemination
  • Research-based teaching, including associated examination
  • Research leadership, including guidance and supervision of researchers
  • Obligation to share knowledge with the rest of society, including participation in public debate
  • Academic assessments
