Qualification Details

We are looking for an associate professor with a doctorate or equivalent competence in chemical engineering and specialization in heterogeneous catalysis is required. In addition, at least a doctoral level in numerical modeling and experimental work is required for catalytic processes for energy conversion.

We are particularly interested in candidates with experience from research areas within catalysis for biogas production, hydrogen production, conversion and use of CO2 in addition to other green catalytic processes for natural gas conversion and / or petroleum chemistry.

You must be able to document an active and ongoing research and have the potential for future research at a high level within the subject area.

It is expected that you have a reflective and conscious attitude to your teaching and supervision activities. You must be able to document pedagogical and didactic competence related to higher education and basic skills in planning, evaluation and development of teaching and supervision. If you do not satisfy the competence requirement, you must complete a university pedagogical course within a period of two years from accession. The course is offered by the university.

Norwegian is the main language at UiS. The working and teaching languages ​​are Norwegian and English. It is expected that you can teach and supervise in Norwegian (minimum at level B2), or another Scandinavian language, within a period of three years from accession. If necessary, you will be offered a Norwegian course paid for by the university.

If applicants with sufficient scientific competence do not register, it may be relevant to employ temporarily for up to three years with a view to qualification and permanent employment. The person hired must have the prerequisite to obtain the necessary qualifications during the employment period.

Responsibilities/Job Description

The University of Stavanger has a vacancy as an associate professor in catalysis for energy conversion at the Faculty of Science and Technology, Department of Energy and Petroleum Technology. The position is vacant from 01.05.2022.

The subject area for the position is catalysis for energy conversion within the research group for production and process engineering.

The person hired will mainly teach and supervise students at bachelor, master's and doctoral level within the subject area, research and disseminate research results within relevant research areas at the department and contribute to the development of collaboration with working life.

Development of varied and digital learning methods in teaching, innovation and value creation based on results from research and professional development work, is included in the position.

The group for production and process engineering at the department has expertise in production engineering, process simulation, multiphase flow and catalysis. The research group wants to strengthen the expertise in catalysis for energy production. Teaching and research in catalysis uses knowledge from several disciplines and the position includes supervision of students at different levels in modeling of catalytic reactions, adaptation of models and experimental work. Strengthening the connection between modeling and empirical research is part of the research group's plan and a central part of the department's research strategy.

The Department of Energy and Petroleum Technology  offers studies and conducts research in drilling technology, production and process technology, energy technology and battery technology. Studies are offered at bachelor's, master's and doctoral level. The institute works closely with relevant industry - especially in the petroleum and battery sector. The department invests heavily in internationalization, including the development of English-language studies and great mobility among academic staff and students. There are about 60 employees associated with the department, including PhD students and postdocs.
