Qualification Details

  • PhD or equivalent qualification in work and organizational psychology or a related discipline.
  • A strong research profile in work and organizational psychology and a track record of publications in acknowledged publication channels. In the assessment of publications, research outputs in recent years as well as originality, quality, open research practice, scope, and interdisciplinary engagement will be emphasized.
  • Plans to conduct high-quality research at UiO with internal and external collaborators.
  • Pedagogical skills and formal basic pedagogical competence. Applicants who cannot document such competence at the time of employment must acquire this within the first two years subsequent to their appointment.
  • Plans to actively participate in education, dissemination and administration at all levels as well as contributing to the further development of teaching in work and organizational psychology.
  • Teaching experience in the area of work and organizational psychology.
  • Applicants must speak and write English fluently.
  • Applicants must be able to work both independently and to cooperate with others, and be highly motivated.

Preferable qualifications

  • Diversity in teaching experiences (forms and levels) would be a great advantage.
  • Plans and ambitions for conducting high quality teaching activities would be a great advantage.
  • Experience in supervising students at the bachelor, master or PhD level would be a great advantage.
  • Having acquired research funding would be an advantage.
  • Documented ability to lead and collaborate in large-scale research projects will be an advantage.
  • Competence in a Scandinavian language would be an advantage. Applicants who do not master a Scandinavian language are expected to learn sufficient Norwegian within two years to be able to actively participate in all functions of this position.

  • Research and development work within the field.
  • Relevant professional practice.
  • Experience from teaching and supervision at Bachelor's and Master's level from the university and college sector.
  • Experience with administration.
  • Pedagogical qualifications from college, university or equivalent.
  • Publications from the last five years will be emphasized.
  • Experience with international research networks and projects with external funding.
  • Good ability to communicate and collaborate with students and colleagues.
  • Personal qualities that can contribute positively to the work environment.

Responsibilities/Job Description

The appointee will contribute to teaching, and supervision activities in the bachelor, master and clinical training programs and to research in work and organizational psychology. The position requires competence in research and teaching in work and organizational psychology.

As an associate professor at the Department of Psychology, you will be part of an active research environment with the goal of further developing this field of research. You have good collaboration skills and aim to create a good performance environment within the research field. You are involved in teaching and its planning and in ensuring teaching quality in the courses. You are approachable for the students and provide academic guidance during the study programs. It is expected that you participate in administrative tasks related to program coordination, courses, examination work, meetings and committee work. In accordance with the university’s appointment regulations, applicants who are qualified for full professorship may subsequently apply for promotion once they have taken up their position.

The research of the work and organizational psychology group includes, in addition to core topics in the field, psychology of technology and human factors and human resource management. Research areas of the group are organisational climate, organizational and leadership development, psychological contracts, work-life balance, team processes, work engagement, knowledge implementation, user-centered design as well as sustainability. The appointee should strengthen or complement these areas.

The Section for Methodology, Work-, Cultural-, and Social Psychology (MAKS) covers basic and applied research and teaching for the Bachelor, Master, clinical training program and PhD programs in methods, work and organizational, social, culture and community psychology. The section’s work and organizational psychology unit includes four permanent academic staff and several Ph.D. fellows.

  • CV (complete list of education, positions, pedagogical experience, administrative experience and coordination experience, research record, scientific knowledge dissemination and other qualifying activities).
  • A complete list of scientific publications.
  • Scientific work - published or unpublished - that you would like to be taken into account during evaluation (up to five works).
  • Copies of educational certificates (academic transcripts only).
  • List of reference persons: 2-3 references (name, relation to candidate, email and phone number).

About the Department/Section/Group

The Department of Psychology is one of seven units of the Faculty of Social Sciences, and has 75 permanent and 70 temporary members of scientific staff. Degrees are offered at bachelor and master level, plus a clinical training programme, and the PhD programme has 140 students.
