Qualification Details

Responsibilities/Job Description

We are looking for applicants with documented research experience, including empirical research with qualitative, quantitative and/or mixed methodological design within one or more of the following research areas:

  • Social practices related to food and meals
  • Food practices in private households
  • Social differentiation of household practices
  • Household practices in vulnerable or deprived groups
  • Food practices in institutions
  • Actor’s practices, policies and strategies within the food system
  • Food practices in relation to societal agendas such as health, sustainability, climate impact, and social inclusion.

The associate professor’s duties will primarily include theoretical and empirical research within the above fields, including contributions to collaborative and interdisciplinary work, obligations regarding to publication/scientific communication and research-based teaching with associated examination obligations within sociology of food. The position may also include other duties, like public sector advisory work.

Applicants are required to have university level teaching experience, documented teaching competencies and must be able to explain and reflect upon own teaching practice and portfolio. Formal pedagogical training or supervision equivalent to the University of Copenhagen teacher training programme for assistant professors is required. Applicants who are not proficient in Danish or another Scandinavian language must be willing to complete Danish language education within the first three years of employment.

Assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented, original scientific production at an international level, including contributions to developments in their field, as well as their documented teaching qualifications. Managerial and out-reach qualifications of applicants including ability to attract external funding will also be considered.

About the Department/Section/Group

The Department of Food and Resource Economics, Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen invites applications for a position as Associate Professor within the field of Sociology of Food and Meal Practices. The position will have its main emphasis on social aspects of food and meals, including social practices in private households, institutions, and organizations in the food sector; how actors’ practices change and can adapt to societal agendas related to population health, social inclusion and sustainable consumption. Social differentiation of food practices according to gender, age, social class, economic resources, ethnicity, and national origin are relevant to the position.
