About the Position

The positions located at Campus Kristiansand. The starting date is negotiable with the Faculty.

At the moment the department has 13 permanent staff in scientific positions, two postdocs and 10 PhD candidates. The department has an active research environment and offers both urban and regional planning studies and global development studies at the Bachelor, Master and PhD-level. Our research spans urban studies on planning and development, especially connected to city life and space, regional studies, sustainable planning, praxis, politics and participation. The positions are linked to the bachelor programme in Planning and Communication and the master specialisation in Urban and Regional Development.

The department continuously works to enhance our interdisciplinary perspective and analytical and methodological capacity in dealing with sustainable urban development. We are therefore looking for candidates with solid theoretical and methodological expertise in the field of planning, here not only understood as institutional, regulated practice, but also as a communicative process. Beyond the institutional praxis regulated by law, a sustainable urban planning must deal with a complexity of forces, including rhetoric and visual communication with the public. The applicant should therefore be able to add competences to this endeavour and to the department’s current critical research on democracy, inclusion, the green transition, communication and planning. We also want to strengthen the departments competences within urban life and space and planning perspectives within urban planning, and we wish applicants with this kind of competence especially welcome.
