Qualification Details

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree related to model predictive control of energy systems in buildings. Applicants are expected to have a general academic profile within architectural engineering or a similar field.  Successful completion of didactic and pedagogical training course(s) in teaching at universities is mandatory.The candidate must have at least 4 - 5 years of post-graduate research and publication experience. Excellence in research demonstrated by several publications of original academic research in scientific journals and conference proceedings, and a rising or continuous high level of research impact in terms of the number of publications, citations, and/or patents is required. Research leadership and the ability to define and manage research projects is required, as is a demonstrated ability to attract external research funding. The successful candidate must have high-level knowledge, skills, and competencies in:

  • System identification of thermal dynamics of buildings
  • Model predictive control of building energy systems for demand response purposes
  • Whole-building thermal modelling (preferable in EnergyPlus)
  • MATLAB Programming skills
  • Data collection and control of IoT devices in laboratory settings and real buildings.

Experience from successful research collaboration with both academia and industry is preferred. The successful applicant must be able to teach and publish in English. Familiarity with the Danish language is highly desirable.

Responsibilities/Job Description

The associate professor will apply scientific knowledge, skills, and competencies from building science disciplines when conducting high-quality research and teaching in the design and operation of healthy, comfortable, productive, and resource-efficient sustainable buildings. More specific responsibilities include

  • Develop and execute a research agenda for databased modelling of building energy systems including research aimed at using these models for predictive control and commissioning.
  • Nurturing, leading, and managing research activities.
  • Attracting external research funds.
  • Contributing to an inspiring and industrially relevant education in architectural engineering at undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Supervising Ph.D. students.
  • Expanding industrial collaboration.

The section seeks to train engineering bachelors and candidates in the ability to unite scientific principles from structural, mechanical, building physics, lighting, acoustical, and construction engineering while applying their discipline-specific expertise to conceptualize, design, construct, operate, and maintain built environments in interdisciplinary team environments. The section conducts various engineering research activities that seek to improve technologies and approaches for the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of sustainable buildings.
