Qualification Details

In order to be appointed to the position, you must have

  • a PhD in Spanish-language literature
  • very good oral and written language skills in Spanish
  • oral and written language skills in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language

In addition, we place emphasis on

  • experience of teaching or other work related to school or higher education
  • good digital competence and experience of the use of digital teaching methods

Personal characteristics

  • willingness and ability to contribute to the development of the Spanish section
  • good ability to motivate and facilitate students’ learning work
  • good communication and collaboration skills

General qualification requirements

For a position as associate professor, basic teaching and academic supervision competence at university and university college level is required. If you do not meet the requirements for educational qualification, courses in university- and university college pedagogy (200 hours) and competence in digital learning methods (50 hours) must be completed within two years. The university college offers a course of study in practical university college pedagogy and digital teaching methods.

Applicants with insufficient language skills in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language may be required to acquire the necessary oral and written skills over a three-year period. The language requirement is documented by a pass in the Bergen Test at level B2, or equivalent.

Responsibilities/Job Description

The person employed is expected to contribute to further development of the research field and quality assurance of teaching at various levels.

Your responsibilities and work areas will mainly be

  • research-based teaching, academic supervision and examination grading
  • research and development work in the field of study
  • networking and further development of the academic environment
  • course evaluation, study programme development and other quality work
  • administration and coordinator tasks (e.g. course responsibility or coordinator functions)

About the Department/Section/Group

The position is primarily linked to teaching and academic supervision in Spanish literature at bachelor's and master's level.

It may also be relevant to contribute within other relevant study programmes provided by the department. The university college currently offers Spanish courses in the bachelor's programme in languages, the master's programme in foreign languages in schools, the primary and lower secondary teacher education and the one-year unit and the supplementary unit.

The university college is renowned for language, literature and culture in education, with the Spanish section as an active contributor. A large part of the department's research is therefore directed towards the focus area of Language in Education, in addition to the teaching development revolving around the work of becoming a National Provider of Foreign Languages (German, French and Spanish) in primary and lower secondary teacher education. The research of the Spanish section also includes the prioritized area The Digital Society. We especially welcome research and development profiles that are linked to work packages within the research programme ELLA – Education, Literature and Language or the education development programme STAS – language education across languages. There are also some research groups at the faculty that may be of interest.

The university college is located at our two campuses in Fredrikstad and Halden. Your main place of work will be in Halden. Since several of the department's courses are offered as online studies, some teaching and academic supervision must be expected to take place in the afternoon and evening.

  • the salary for the position as associate professor is NOK 625,000 – 800,000 corresponding to a 100% position. The salary scale will depend on qualifications, experience and market conditions. In the case of particularly relevant competence, a different salary may be considered.
