Responsibilities/Job Description
This position is embedded within the Social Psychology Section of the Department of Experimental and Applied Psychology. Our group values interdisciplinary perspectives (including but not limited to those guided by the evolutionary sciences), diverse and informative methods (e.g., agent-based modeling; cross-cultural comparisons), and open, transparent science. We aim to be on the cutting edge of theoretical developments within (and beyond) social psychology, and to apply these developments to uncovering new knowledge on topics ranging from how and why people avoid infectious disease, endorse conspiracy theories, maintain versus dissolve romantic partnerships, and engage in costly actions that contribute to group or society welfare. The section's key (broad) research focuses include trust and human cooperation, emotion, close relationships, social learning, and morality. We are searching for a candidate who, in addition to complementing these existing strengths, can also contribute expertise and teach in statistics, methodology, and open science.
The candidate is expected to: (a) develop a strong research program; (b) submit competitive applications for external grant funding (e.g., to the European Research Council and the Dutch Research Council); (c) be a dedicated teacher (current expectation is 50% of effort dedicated to teaching – future efforts can be higher or lower depending on the candidate’s and department’s funding situation); (d) have a positive effect on the department’s social climate; and (e) engage in valorisation activities (e.g., public outreach). In addition to teaching at the bachelor and (research) master level, the candidate would also supervise bachelor, master, and, eventually, Ph.D. students. The exact starting date is flexible, though it will ideally be late summer or early fall 2022.
