Qualification Details

Candidates should meet the following requirements:

  • A PhD in psychopharmacology, biopsychology  or cognitive neuroscience;
  • 1-2 year post-doc experience;
  • A strong background in research on biological mechanisms, pharmacological and biological intervention models, and controlled drug studies in healthy volunteers and/or patients;
  • Experience with pharmaco-imaging techniques, e.g., fMRI, functional connectivity assessments, magnetic resonance spectroscopy, EEG;
  • Excellent research qualities, as shown by a publication record in international peer-reviewed journals;
  • Ability to initiate international research collaborations;
  • Capacity to acquire research grants from external sources;
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a team;
  • Demonstrable organizational competencies;
  • Good command of spoken and written English;
  • Affinity for small-scale student-centered Problem Based Learning;
  • A good track record in teaching Psychopharmacological topics, appropriate to your career stage;
  • Ability to supervise individual student research projects at Bachelor and Master level, and to co-supervise PhD students;
  • University Teaching Qualification (UTQ) or willingness to obtain the UTQ.

Candidates will be involved with the following tasks

The candidate will be involved in teaching and coordinating at the Bachelor- and Master level, particularly in the disciplines of psychopharmacology and biological psychology. We also expect that the candidate supervises individual student research projects and co-supervises PhD students. We expect that the candidate will be able to initiate and supervise psychopharmacological and/or biopsychological studies that will contribute to one, or more, of our 6 research lines. In addition, the candidate communicates research findings in scientific journals and at international conferences. We expect that (s)he contributes to the acquisition of external research funding that strengthens the research profile of the section Psychopharmacology. The candidate will also contribute to the organization of the faculty, for example, by participating in working groups and committees, in the domains of teaching, research, and management.

Responsibilities/Job Description

The Department of Neuropsychology and Psychopharmacology, section Psychopharmacology, is seeking an Assistant Professor who could further strengthen our teaching and research activities. The section distinguishes 6 research programs that aim to assess cognitive-emotional function and human performance from a psychopharmacological perspective (for more information, please see our website). In terms of teaching, the section coordinates and/or contributes to the  Research Master programs in Neuropsychology and in Drug Development and Neurohealth . The Assistant Professor is explicitly asked to contribute to our flagship research and education programs.

About the Department/Section/Group

The department of Neuropsychology and Psychopharmacology (NP&PP) is one of the research departments of the Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience. We perform fundamental and applied behavioural and cognitive neuroscience research on the brain-cognition relationship and assess biological mechanisms that underlie cognitive, affective, and behavioural functions by means of controlled pharmacological interventions. We offer a full-time position (38 hours/week) at the Department Neuropsychology & Psychopharmacology  of the Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience.

You will be employed temporarily for 12 or 18 months (depending on your employment history) as assistant professor (level 2) and will co-develop and agree to specific development goals. Towards the end of this contract period and upon satisfactory performance, this initially 12 or 18 months position will become permanent. Your development goals will also allow you to grow further to the position of assistant professor (level 1).

The salary depends on academic qualifications and experience. The salary will be set between minimum gross month salary € 3,821 and maximum gross month salary of € 5,230 based on a full-time employment and in accordance with scale 11 of the Collective Labour Agreement of the Dutch Universities. For people recruited from abroad a reduced income tax rate may apply. Maastricht University has attractive employment conditions, which include a pension scheme, holidays, holiday allowance and an end of year bonus and partially paid parental leave.

The university’s relocation policy stipulates that you need to move to (the vicinity of) Maastricht. If not already living in Maastricht (or its surroundings), you could be eligible for an allowance for moving costs.
