At the Technical Faculty of IT and Design, Department of Planning a three-year fixed-term position as Assistant Professor in sustainable urban and regional planning at Aalborg University, Denmark, 2022
Candidates are expected to have a Ph.D. in urban and regional planning, human geography, or related fields and engage with qualitative and quantitative research methods. The assistant professor is expected to contribute to interdisciplinary research on substantial aspects that are influencing planning methods strategically such as climate change, SDGs, and environmental concerns, and to link them to process-oriented aspects including public participation, and co-creation perspectives such as citizen science and strategies that will connect national and local communities into a more sustainable future. Experiences in national and international projects will be highly valued.
As an assistant professor, you will develop an independent research agenda that connects a series of challenges related to the promotion of Sustainable Cities and Communities in accordance with the UN sustainable development goal 11. The research could include recent concepts of sustainability, related to formal and informal planning, as well as the professional planning practice. Research topics could include housing, mobility, energy, air quality, or participatory planning. In particular, applicants with expertise within sustainability sciences, planning legislation, participatory planning, and urban living lab methods are encouraged to apply. Aalborg University commits to Problem-based learning (PBL) and as an assistant professor, you will contribute to the teaching of the Department of Planning’s bachelor and master’s programmes, especially the bachelor programme in Urban, Energy and Environmental Planning (in Danish) and the master’s programme in Urban Planning and Management (in English). Knowledge of Danish or another Scandinavian language is therefore an advantage. Alternatively, the candidate should be willing to learn Danish within the first two years of employment.

About the Department/Section/GroupAs an Assistant professor you are expected to develop your own research agenda within the broad field of Sustainable Urban and Regional Planning and contribute to teaching in the Department of Planning’s bachelor and master’s programmes.
