Our faculty is investing in new academic staff in line with the quality agreements. In the department of DEvelopment and Education of youth in Diverse Societies  external link(DEEDS) at the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences, Utrecht University we are looking for an assistant professor (m/f/x).

In terms of teaching, we are looking for a candidate who can contribute to our Bachelor's, Master's and Research Master's programmes, specifically with respect to the topics of multilingualism and linguistic diversity. In our teaching programmes, multilingualism and linguistic diversity are approached from a systemic perspective, including the society at large but also family, school, health care systems, and their interactions, which all have an impact on children’s development and learning.

In terms of research, we would welcome a colleague who will strengthen the research profile of our department. Our aim is to contribute to the optimal development and participation of all children and youth in increasingly diverse societies. We link their development and learning to social issues such as equity, cultural and linguistic diversity, and participation and examine how pedagogical and educational contexts and facilities can be optimized to improve the development and participation opportunities for children and youth. We are looking for a colleague who is enthusiastic to contribute to the field of pedagogical sciences from an expertise in one or more of the following areas: multilingualism, linguistic diversity, and partnerships between parents and educational/healthcare professionals in the context of migration, including recently arrived refugees and second or third generation migrants.

The department's research is positioned in the UU research programme Education and Learning  external linkand is embedded in several central strategic themes and focus areas of Utrecht University: Dynamics of Youth  external linkand Institutions for Open Societies  external link, Migration and Social Change.

The position involves 60% teaching activities and 40% research time. Core tasks will include contributing to:

  • the Bachelor's and Master’s degree programmes of the Pedagogical Sciences curriculum;
  • the acquisition of research funding for the benefit of the research programme;
  • supervision and conducting research within the scope of the research programme;
  • dissemination of research results to the research community, societal partners and the general public.

The Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences  external linkis one of the leading faculties in Europe providing research and academic teaching in cultural anthropology, educational sciences, interdisciplinary social science, methods and statistics, pedagogical sciences, psychology, and sociology. Research and teaching activities are concentrated in five areas:

  • Behaviour in Social Contexts;
  • Child and Adolescent Studies;
  • Cognitive and Clinical Psychology;
  • Education and Learning;
  • and Methodology and Statistics.

About the Employer:

Offers

We offer a position (0.8 - 1.0 FTE), initially for 18 months. After a good evaluation of the initial appointment, the position becomes permanent. We also provide an attractive working environment and a vibrant research climate with ample opportunity for further professionalization. The gross salary - depending on previous qualifications and experience  - ranges between €3,821 and €5,943 (scale 11-12 according to the Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities) per month for a full-time employment.

Salaries are supplemented with a holiday bonus of 8% and a year-end bonus of 8.3% per year.
