Qualification Details

Applicants must document:

  • A PhD degree in Molecular Biology, Biology, Microbiology, Agronomy or a related relevant field
  • Research qualifications at professorship level in  molecular genetics including a strong publication profile
  • Nationally or internationally recognized leadership in a field of research relevant to plant-microbe interactions as defined in this call
  • The ability to attract substantial external funding over a longer period of time.
  • An ability to deliver high quality and innovative teaching/supervision at bachelor, master and PhD level
  • An ability to work closely and build long-term relationships with internal and external collaborators/stakeholders.
  • A history of a research group with an unbiased gender balance and a proper balance between national and international students/postdoctoral fellows.

Responsibilities/Job Description

The tasks of the professor include:

  • To define and lead an internationally competitive research program focused on understanding plant interactions with microbes colonizing the plant surface and microbes invading plant tissues as endophytes or endosymbionts.
  • To conduct competitive and innovative research activities at the highest international level
  • To engage in translational and applied research supporting future applications and establishment of a sustainable society based on renewable resources.
  • To manage and undertake teaching in courses for students in molecular biology, molecular medicine and related programs at bachelor, master and PhD level.
  • To define and supervise experimental project for Bachelor, Master’s, and PhD students.
  • To attract external funding from national and international funding bodies for own and collaborative research with colleagues at the department and external Danish and international collaborations.
  • To show leadership by actively engaging in the administration and strategic development of the department and to establish interdisciplinary collaboration within own and other relevant departments at Aarhus University
  • To mentor junior researchers with respect to applications for external funding and career development.

About the Department

The Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics is part of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Aarhus University and comprises research within the areas of Plant Molecular Biology, Neurobiology, RNA Biology and Innovation, Protein Science, Cellular Health, Intervention and Nutrition. There are currently 75 full time scientific staff and 120 PhD students. The department is responsible for two educations: Molecular Biology and Molecular Medicine with a yearly uptake of 160 students in total.
