Karolinska Institutet, Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society
The Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS) conducts world leading research in aging, dementia, epidemiology and care sciences. This research extends from basic molecular and cell levels to clinical research and societal studies. NVS educates almost a third of KI students at basic and advanced levels. The Department has approximately 520 employees and a revenue 2021 of 483 million SEK. It comprises seven divisions, located at Campus Flemingsberg and Campus Solna.
Aging Research Center (ARC), a division within NVS, is located at KI Campus Solna, Stockholm. It is a multidisciplinary academic environment, representing medicine (e.g., neurology, epidemiology, psychiatry, geriatrics), psychology (e.g., cognition, structural, functional, and molecular brain imaging), and social gerontology (e.g., sociology, public health, social epidemiology, social work). The center has around 70 employees, it has a strong focus on research with unique research resources, such as large-scale longitudinal studies and nationwide registries.
Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?
As a postdoctoral researcher at ARC you will work in a dynamic and international research environment. The current position will focus on cognitive and olfactory function in aging and dementia and their associations with dementia biomarkers.
You will work with data collected at a Memory clinic (n = 300) and within the population-based Swedish National Study on Aging and Care-Kungsholmen (SNAC-K, n = 2500, https://www.snac-k.se/). Available biomarkers include CSF, blood, and neuroimaging markers. Baseline data for the Memory clinic sample are already collected and follow-up is ongoing. The SNAC-K study covers repeated assessments of cognition, olfaction, and dementia across 18 years.
Over the course of the postdoctoral appointment, the candidate will plan, analyze, structure, and report on results from these and other databases.
This is a temporary full-time position of 2 years with start in August 2023, or according to agreement.
We are looking for a highly motivated person who can work both independently and as a member of a team. The candidate should have a background in psychology, cognitive neuroscience, or other relevant area. It is considered favorable if you have knowledge within the fields of cognitive aging or olfactory cognition. Prior experience with longitudinal databases and advanced statistical modelling is also an advantage. Excellent collaborative, communication and scientific writing skills are needed. Very good English skills in speaking and writing are an absolute requirement for the position. Independence and strong motivation are expected throughout the project.
To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.
We stress research expertise within the specified areas when assessing applicants. In addition, great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.
