The IT University of Copenhagen invites highly motivated individuals to apply for a PhD position in Human-Computer Interaction starting 1 April 2023 or after agreement.
We invite applicants who want to contribute to the IT University’s vision of creating and sharing knowledge that is profound and leads to groundbreaking information technology and services for the benefit of humanity; and to contribute to the Digital Design Department’s research themes on care, creativity, participation, data and AI.
Two PhD positions are funded by a Horizon Europe grant led by Associate Professor Anders Sundnes Løvlie. The overall aim of the project is to explore how emerging technology may be used to innovate in the domain of craft – and to explore how craft and technology can contribute to developing a sustainable future and circular economy. The candidates will work together with a group of young craft makers in Bornholm and Venice to develop speculative designs that explore the future of craft.
We encourage candidates to apply who have an interest in working creatively with design in a close interdisciplinary research collaboration.
Possible topics include (but are not limited to):
- Speculative design
- Design fiction
- Mixed reality
- Tangible and embodied interaction
- Artificial intelligence
- Digital/hybrid craft
The successful candidate will work together with Anders Sundnes Løvlie and join Media, Art and Design (MAD), an interdisciplinary research group at the IT University of Copenhagen.
The IT University of Copenhagen (ITU) is a teaching and research-based tertiary institution concerned with information technology (IT) and the opportunities it offers. The IT University has more than 160 full-time Faculty members. Research and teaching in information technology span all academic activities which involve computers including computer science, information and media sciences, humanities and social sciences, business impact and the commercialization of IT.
The following qualifications are required:
- 3 year programme: candidates should have an MSc (or equivalent)
Appointment and salary will be in accordance with the Ministry of Finance’s agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC).

- A motivated application, including a cogent argument for how qualified you are for the position and brief statements of research and teaching plans
- A full CV, including name, address, phone number, e-mail, previous and present employment and academic background
- Documentation of academic degrees (copy of degree certificates etc.)
- Copies of max. 5 different publications that are relevant to the position
- A numbered list of publications. The enclosed publications should be marked with an asterisk (*)

The applicant will be accessed according to the Appointment Order from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation of 13 March 2012.
The IT University may use shortlisting in connection to the recruitment process. In case of shortlisting, the Chair of the hiring committee selects applicants for assessment in consultation with the hiring committee after the application deadline. All applicants are notified whether their application has been passed for assessment. The shortlisting of candidates for assessment is based on the criteria in the job posting.
