We are looking for a Research Assistant, formally based at the Division of Children’s and Women’s Health.

The position

In your future tasks, you will perform both laboratory-based molecular biology research using human cells as well as generating and analyzing multi-omics data such as RNA-Seq and various forms of DNA methylation sequencing and arrays. You will have the opportunity to present your work regularly at our group meetings, but also at national and international conferences. You will also be involved in the preparation of manuscripts for publication.

The person we need

We are looking for someone with a master’s degree in genetics or a similar field. The position requires solid knowledge of bioinformatics and broad experience of standard molecular biology techniques such as Western Blot, PCR, cell culture. Previous experience in compiling and presenting scientific results is valuable.

The following education, experience and expertise are required:

  • Advanced R programming in a linux environment
  • Development of R packages
  • Analysis by RNA-Seq (Illumina)
  • Analysis of DNA methylation arrays (Illumina)
  • Protein extraction, purification, chromatography and analysis

In addition, the following education, experience and expertise will strengthen an application:

  • Human cell cultures (including transfection, cytotoxicity assays and microscopy)
  • Analysis of expression and methylation microarrays
  • Analysis of long non-coding RNAs

The position requires very good knowledge of English, both spoken and written. As a person, you are independent and initiative-taking. You are calm, motivated and find it easy to collaborate with others in an international context with different cultural backgrounds. Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities. 

The workplace

You will work at the Department of Children’s and Women’s Health (BKH), in Colm Nestor’s growing research group that combines clinical research, molecular biology, genomics and big data analysis to gain insights into the molecular origins of disease.
