Qualification Details
A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree must be obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline. The doctoral (or equivalent) degree will be in chemistry or a related research field. A successful applicant will have documented examples of both independent and collaborative research. A successful applicant will have documented examples of effective and concise English-language communication skills. For this position, a great emphasis will be placed on personal competence and suitability. The successful applicant will thrive in a diverse working environment.
Merits:
It is considered a merit if an applicant has personal, direct, and documented prior experience in: making transition metal oxide semiconductors powders, electrochemical methods, sol-gel synthesis, Schlenk line synthesis, use of a glovebox, powder X-ray diffraction, and/or NMR spectroscopy. Other merits for this position include: a strong documented academic track record, curiosity, diligence, cooperativeness, independence, and the ability to maintain an orderly work environment.
Responsibilities/Job Description
The rapid growth and success of electric vehicles is driving demand for lithium-based batteries. In the absence of robust recycling methods many of these essential metals face scarcity. In this project, two (2) excellent postdoctoral fellows will use their knowledge of coordination chemistry and electrochemical methods to recover scarce and high-value metals from lithium-ion batteries. A focus of the research will be on making and testing small ligands for the selective coordination of metals. The research project focuses on both fundamental science and industrial relevance. The postdoctoral fellows will be in regular, direct contact with both industry representatives in a reference group and collaborating researchers working on this joint project.
The postdoctoral fellows will be part of a larger collaborative project involving senior researchers, PhD students, and other postdoctoral fellows. As members of the group, the fellows will work independently on the project and in close collaboration with members of the group.
The project is funded by a grant from the Swedish Energy Agency (Energimyndigheten).
