In your application, please include CV, documents to certify your qualifications, and a short research proposal related to the topic of the doctoral position. The research proposal must use an academic style of writing, with a clear structure, argumentation and referencing. Also indicate in your application, which of the two positions that you are most interested in.

Responsibilities/Job Description

The first doctoral position will focus on the future development of the Swedish biogas system. The research will engage various stakeholders in the Swedish biogas system for the design and analysis of socio-technical scenarios relating to the production, distribution and use of biogas. The starting point for these scenarios is an imagined growth of the annual national production from the current 2 TW to 10 TWh in 2030. The scenarios will focus on critical interactions between different public and private actors, on opportunities and obstacles, as well as on necessary initiatives, investments, and policy instruments. This should ultimately support key stakeholders in strategic decision-making on how to get involved in the Swedish biogas system to enable significant growth.

The second doctoral position is focused on studies of international development and diffusion of biogas solutions. Of particular interest are countries in the southern hemisphere with particularly great potential for biogas production, such as Brazil. The focus is on comparative analyses of societal conditions in the form of socio-economic systems, institutional structures, and policy instruments. The research should ultimately lead to knowledge about how it is possible to stimulate the international adoption and diffusion of biogas solutions.

As a doctoral student, you devote most of your time to doctoral studies and the research projects of which you are part. Your work may also include teaching or other departmental duties, up to a maximum of 20% of full-time.

BSRC includes researchers and support from two universities, Linköping University and the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, about 50 private and public organizations that represent all parts of the biogas system, and it has additional support from the Swedish Energy Agency. The doctoral positions within BSRC shall promote co-production of knowledge between academia, industry, and public organizations. All doctoral positions within the centre must reflect the overall need of the competence centre’s partners and to secure long-term supply of competence in both industry and academia.
