Job description
We are looking for a teacher to teach in courses and design studios focusing on condition assessment and design for intervention of historic buildings, listed and unlisted (new heritage). You have practical experience with and are able to guide students in the identification of structural behavior of (traditional) building structures and detailing. The focus of this position lies on education in the Master Architecture in close collaboration with teachers in architecture and specialists in historic building materials. You are expected to coach a new generation of architects capable of dealing with specialist knowledge regarding historic as well as present state-of-the-art constructions and materials to enhance the sustainability of buildings through preservation and adaptation.
The section Heritage & Architecture (HA) at the Department Architectural Engineering and Technology, Faculty of Architecture, and the Built Environment of TU Delft focuses on values-based redesign, meaning to focus on heritage conservation and adaptive reuse. Since 2015, the section of HA is structured in a triangular framework defined by the distinctive, yet strongly complementary knowledge domains: Values + Technology + Design.
At Heritage & Architecture, the discovery, assessment and strategic use of the built environment and its values are studied, taught and further developed in greater diversity and efficiency. We seek to grow knowledge and educate new generations that creatively redesign heritage, respecting its values recognized by society, and raise its future functional use and its sustainability, by smartly matching and developing the adequate, innovative technology and materials for heritage conservation and by maximizing the impact for both the people and the planet. The section Heritage & Architecture delivers specific education (design studios and other courses) in the minor of the Bachelor Bouwkunde, MSc 1 Architecture, MSc 2 Architecture, MSc 3/4 Architecture and in the MSc Building Technology.
Requirements
- A master’s degree in architecture, building technology or civil engineering.
- You have additional knowledge and experience in more than one of the following domains:
- Historic construction techniques and building materials and their conservation
- Condition assessment and damage diagnosis (diagnostic, analytical)
- Treatment and mitigation measures (interventive, problem-solver)
- Redesign of historic details to match future needs
- Circularity and LCA in heritage conservation
- A strong aptitude for teaching
- A very good command of the English language
- A good command of the Dutch language is preferred
- Ability to work collaboratively with others (students, faculty and staff) to create a supportive learning environment.
- Research (academic or practical) and teaching experience is preferred, but this is not compulsory.
Conditions of employment
Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (based on scale 10: € 2.960,00 – € 4.670,00). The employment contract is agreed for 1 year, with a possibility of a permanent contract. The position is open for 16 hours per week. The TU Delft offers a customisable compensation package, a discount on health insurance and sport memberships, and a monthly work costs contribution. Flexible work schedules can be arranged.
