Applicants should hold a PhD in relevant research areas usch as environmental sciences, geography, ecology, agricultural/ environmental engineering, or a closely related field.
Furthermore, the following qualifications will be beneficial:
- Knowledge of hydrological and nutrient transport processes at catchment scale
- Knowledge of statistical methods in hydrology/environmental sciences
- Experience working with geospatial data using Geographical Information Systems
- Catchment modelling experience using SWAT/SWAT+ or similar process-based hydrological models
- Very good communication skills in spoken and written English
- Strong academic writing skills
- Motivation to work in international and interdisciplinary teams
- Python programming skills and knowledge of Database Management Systems are advantageous
We invite applications for a three-year full-time Postdoc position in the Department of Ecoscience at Aarhus University in Denmark. The successful candidate will contribute to efforts within two projects funded by the European Commission, NORDBALT-ECOSAFE (Horizon Europe, 2022-2025) and MERLIN (H2020, 2021-2025).The start date is February 1, 2023, or as soon as possible thereafter.
You will be integrated in the ongoing work in some of our large EU projects and your tasks will include:
- Development of a classification framework for Nature-Based Solutions in the Nordic-Baltic Region.
- SWAT+ modelling of Nature-based Solutions in the Odense Fjord Catchment in Denmark under current and future climate conditions.
- Development of an online River Basin Management Support System for six catchments in the Nordic-Baltic Region.
- SWAT+ modelling of freshwater ecosystem restoration measures in several catchments across Europe.
- Collaboration with international and interdisciplinary project consortia.
- Presentation of project results at scientific conferences and meetings with stakeholders.
- Publication of project results in peer-reviewed journal articles, reports, and policy briefs.

About the Department/Section/Group
The place of employment is the Department of Ecoscience, which is located on the Campus of Aarhus University, in Aarhus. Your colleagues will mainly be from the Section of Catchment Science and Environmental Management who conduct research to acquire new knowledge and insight into how best to respond to the negative consequences, and on this basis we also provide consultancy to various authorities, both nationally and internationally.
The Department of Ecoscience (https://ecos.au.dk/en/) is organised under the Faculty of Technical Sciences and studies life in all respects. We teach, provide consultancy and research in life; right from bacteria to whales over genes to ecosystems and from basic research to applied biology in nature management and biotechnology. The Department has approximately 275 staff members, just over 100 working in Roskilde, and nearly 175 in Aarhus.

Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.
