Geodesy with specialization in Civil Engineering
The subject of geodesy is the science of accurately measuring and understanding Earth’s geometric shape and size, orientation in space, and gravity, which includes the definition and realization of coordinate reference systems. The main areas studied by geodesy are development of surveying techniques, definition and maintenance of reference systems for positioning, determination of land uplift, tectonic movements, sea level and the so-called the geoid (the reference surface for heights). Geodesy is by its nature global and international cooperation is a prerequisite.
The subject includes industrial measurements (engineering geodesy), cadaster surveying, measurements for map production in the land surveying sector, measurements in connection with property registration as well as regional geoid determination and processing/analysis of space geodetic observations from various satellite systems, for e.g. climate-related research.
