Biostatistics is concerned with the application of statistical methods to the study of a wide range of biological topics. It is the branch of statistics that deals with data on living organisms. It involves the design of biological experiments, the collection and analysis of data from these experiments, and the determination of the significance of the results.
In other words, "Biostatistics is central to all science because science needs the collection of evidence and the analysis of that evidence to make a judgment."
A biostatistician makes sense of all this data by "turning data into knowledge." Using the tools of statistics, biostatisticians help answer pressing research questions in medicine, biology, and public health, such as whether a new drug works, what causes cancer and other diseases, and how long a person with a particular disease is likely to survive.
